Ask Selma!

Q. My sister got her whole stomach removed for stomach cancer 27 months ago. She is 61. My question is, how can I get a nutritionist through the internet. She lives in Honduras, Central America, and over there she has had not found one good nutritionist. She is here in Lancaster, California spending a couple of months with me. Can you help to find information on the web? Thank You so much!!

A. Nutritional issues related to stomach cancer are most important and hopefully these links will be helpful to you: UCSD’s, Ask the Nutritionist; National Cancer Institute’s, Eating Hints for Cancer Patients: Before, During, and After Treatment; A Dietitian’s Cancer Story; and FAQs from this same site. Useful tips also include her eating frequent smaller meals rather than trying to eat too much at once. Pureed foods may also be easier for her, and nutritional drinks like Ensure and Boost may also be helpful.
